Visitors to Colchester Zoo were left queuing for almost an hour as good weather made it the ideal destination for the last day of the half-term holiday.
Essex’ famous zoo, which last week announced the opening of their brand new ‘Interactive Zone’ at the Colchester Zoo Discovery Centre, had visitors queuing along Tollgate Road, Warren Lane and Maldon Road for almost an hour on Friday 16th February.
Plans to help alleviate some of the queuing have been proposed by Essex County Council with alterations to Maldon Road, as part of a wider improvement plan.
Cllr Kevin Bently (Con), County Councillor for Stanway said in a statement: “Essex County Council are working on creating a dedicated right hand turn into Colchester Zoo to help prevent the queuing, which at the moment can cause major congestion along Warren Lane and Maldon Road and back to Tollgate Road.
“I have set up a team to oversee this project, including myself, Stanway Parish Council and Essex County Highways.
“As Essex County Council cabinet member for infrastructure, I can say proposed alterations to this area are indeed part of wider improvement plans.”
In 2016, Colchester Zoo welcomed over 42,000 school children on educational visits to the site and has recently been awarded the winner of the ‘Best Day Out: Outdoors’ award for the 4th consecutive year by Essex Mums 2017.
