Colchester Castle has scooped the Best School Trip prize, in the Primary Times Essex Star Awards 2018.
The awards, now in their fifth year, champion the best places and best businesses within Essex for families with young children. All the winners were selected by votes from the readers of Primary Times in Essex, compiled from postal entries, unique email entries and online voting between 9th October and 12th December 2017.
Cllr Tim Young (Lab), Portfolio Holder for Business and Culture said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have once again been voted for, and won, a Primary Times Star Award.
“It recognises Colchester Castle’s importance as one of the region’s leading heritage attractions. The museum staff work tirelessly to ensure the experience of our visitors, is enjoyable and educational for all ages.
“I’d like to thank everyone who voted for us a Winner of the Best School Trip category.”
Primary Times publisher Nick Cousins added: “Well done to all our winners. Each year we introduce some new categories so that we can really find out which places and which events are popular with readers.
“This year, we can say that families in Essex are continuing to go to some of the best-known places in the county – but we can see that it is the special events that they hold which are really becoming popular.”
Over 21,000 schoolchildren are expected to visit Colchester Castle this year, guided by teams of trained museum assistants.
Interactive sessions on the Romans and on Castles as Homes, which include a tour of the Roman vaults and exploration for the schoolchildren including lots of hands-on activities provide a fun way to explore the Museum’s amazing collection of artefacts.
