Colchester Council’s Tree for Years giveaway is set to return on Saturday 3rd February 2018.
Now in its twelfth year, the scheme in association with grounds maintenance company idverde sees over 2,000 trees and fruit bushes provided for free to local residents, communities and schools.
Trees and bushes will be available to collect from Rowan House, Sheepen Road between 10am and 1pm or until stock runs out.
Over 700 people attended the event last year, with stock running out by midday, so residents are advised to attend early to avoid disappointment.
Up to three plants can be taken per household and residents are asked to bring their own bags to transport them. Schools or community groups can take up to fifteen. All trees are bare-root and range in height from 50cm to 1.2m.
Members of the Council’s Parks Team will be on hand to advise which plants are suitable for your size of garden.
Cllr Tina Bourne, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities, said: “Trees for Years gives residents a chance to enjoy beautiful plants in their own gardens and to help our environment. The event is always hugely popular, showing that Colchester residents share our commitment to creating an attractive, green place to live. Thanks to idverde for their continued sponsorship this year.”
The Free Tree giveaway supports the Council’s aim of creating a green, healthy borough for people to live, work and play in.
