Leisure World to sponsor popular Colchester Half-Marathon

Leisure World Colchester have today announced they are to sponsor the 2018 Colchester Half Marathon, taking place on Sunday 25 March.

The Colchester Borough Council-run sports and leisure centre is providing Finisher t-shirts for every runner who completes the half-marathon.

Cllr Annie Feltham (Lib), Portfolio Holder for Commercial Services, said: “I’m very excited that we are supporting one of Colchester’s biggest fitness events in 2018.

“Seeing our customers taking on fitness challenges like the Colchester Half Marathon, training and reaching their goals is inspirational.

“I’m sure there is nothing like the feeling of crossing the finish line and knowing you’ve made it, and we’re delighted to support that effort by making sure every finisher gets a t-shirt to honour their achievement.”

Now in its eighth year, the Colchester Half Marathon has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for local charities.

The town-and-country course starts at Weston Homes Community Stadium and takes in Castle Park and the town centre, before heading north to Langham Moor and Boxted and then returning south to the stadium.

This year, funds raised will go to Essex and Herts Air Ambulance and MSUK.

The event is organised by Colchester Colne Round Table (CHM) and volunteers from the local community.

Liam Austin, Race Director for CHM, said: “We are building upon the successes of previous years to ensure that we make this event bigger and enhance the family feel of the event more than ever before.

“We are delighted to have Leisure World as our t-shirt sponsor and the enthusiasm that the team brings with them can only help but make the experience even better.”

Leisure World Colchester, in Cowdray Avenue, Colchester, is one of East Anglia’s largest sports, recreation, leisure and entertainment venues, supporting local people to improve their health & fitness.

This year sees the launch of the centre’s #MyGoal campaign, which encourages users of the leisure centre to commit to their fitness resolution on social media and to cheer one another on.

The design of the Half Marathon t-shirts links to the campaign with an inspiring “Run It, Build It, Push It” message, celebrating dedication to a goal.
