The Colchester Events Company has announced a programme of major artists will be performing in Colchester during 2018 and there are some seriously huge names on the list.
The town’s summer of live music kicks off on Saturday 16 June, when 90s megastars Steps are set to perform at Castle Park. As part of their 20th anniversary celebrations, the pop group that brought us ‘Tragedy’ and ‘5,6,7,8’ are returning in a big way with a UK tour alongside Noughties boyband Blue.
The sky over Castle Park will just have time to settle before another massive concert arrives in the shape of the Grandslam on Sunday 26 August, headlined by legendary rock bands Simple Minds and The Pretenders.
Performing classic hits alongside new material, the two groups will be on stage for the first time since Live Aid. As if that’s not enough, they’ll be supported by the melodic tones of Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall, bringing her warm and enchanting style to this exciting event.
Colchester’s comedy circuit is set for an influx of household names too, with four of the hottest acts in British stand-up raising the roof of Charter Hall this year. On 26 January, Katherine Ryan brings dazzling wit with her Glitter Room Tour.
King of one-liners Milton Jones is bringing his unique brand of eccentric hilarity to get the audience giggling on 2 March, while master storyteller and entertainer Danny Baker is bringing his Good Time Charlie’s Back! tour to the hall on 1 June.
Rolling us into the aisles of autumn, Jason Manford’s Muddle Class tour stop on 12 October delivers a captivating, charmingly funny show charting his rise from ‘working’ to ‘middle’ class and the confusion caused.
Cllr Annie Feltham (Lib), Portfolio Holder for Commercial Services, said “I’m very excited about this year’s programme of events, which shows that Colchester is now firmly on the map for big touring names in the UK.
“This is partly thanks to the hard work of the Colchester Events Company, who work tirelessly to attract and accommodate the best performers, and partly to the venues themselves.
“Colchester is fortunate to offer a wonderful variety of unique venues, from the established Charter Hall to Castle Park and other spectacular spaces.”
