In April 2016, Home Retail Group which owns Argos was purchased by Sainsbury’s in a deal said to be worth £1.4bn.

The supermarket said the deal to buy Home Retail Group would create a “multi-product, multi-channel” retailer.

Sainsbury’s will be paid a combination of shares and cash, with Home Retail shareholders holding 12% of the combined business.

Argos offers over 18,000 products in its catalogue with an additional 7,000 items for online purchase.
