Essex County Council (ECC) have revealed plans to offer residents and visitors to Colchester free parking and travel via the Park and Ride service in the town in the run up to Christmas.
Announced as part of Colchester’s arrangement of late night shopping festivities, the Park and Ride service operated off the A12, Junction 28 (around 8 minutes drive from Stanway) will allow all users free transport and parking on Wednesday 5th, 12th and 19th of December from 12pm to 9pm.
Cllr. Kevin Bentley, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure at ECC, said, “Instead of driving into town, jump on board our free Park and Ride service on Wednesdays and enjoy a stress-free shopping experience in Colchester’s fantastic high street to snap up some festive goodies.
“Some of the benefits of stepping away from the keyboard and hitting the high street include friendly and welcoming shop managers offering tailored advice, being able to see, test and take home the product that day, the knowledge that 50-70p of every pound will circulate in the local economy, and an overall experience and atmosphere in Colchester which the online world simply cannot compete with.”
Park and Ride is open to visitors and residents who want to travel into the centre of Colchester, avoiding traffic jams and finding parking. The journey takes around 12 minutes from the site off the A12.
Colchester offers a range of unique retail opportunities, including in the Lion Walk and Crouch Street areas, with shoppers also able to enjoy local restaurants and cafes.
