Organisers of Colchester Half Marathon have announced charity beneficiaries ahead of next years race.
On Sunday 24th March 2019, over 4,000 runners are due to take on the Colchester Half Marathon raising over £60,000 directly and over £250,00 indirectly through runners’ own efforts for good causes, making a positive difference to charities in Colchester.
MS-UK, a chosen charity partner is set to receive 75 per cent of the proceeds from the event and Headway Essex who will receive 25 per cent.
Jill Purcell, Fundraising Manager from MS-UK said: “We are thrilled to be charity partners for this amazing event for the second year. Last year’s event was brilliant and it was great to see the community coming together to take part in the town’s largest annual sporting event and supporting local charities at the same time.
“MS-UK relies on the generous support of our fundraisers to make our work possible, and we’re delighted that we’ll be able to continue supporting people in Colchester affected by multiple sclerosis.”
MS-UK was established in 1993, and is a small national charity dedicated to empowering people with multiple sclerosis to make the most of today, and live life to the full. MS-UK has a bi-monthly magazine, New Pathways, a national helpline, a telephone counselling service and a wellness centre based on the Hythe in Colchester called Josephs Court.
Tracy Wellsted, Fundraising Manager at Headway Essex added: “We are over the moon to be chosen as one of the beneficiaries of next year’s Colchester Half Marathon. Having been part of the Colchester community for over 30 years, it’s great to be part such an iconic event in the town centre.”
Headway Essex was established in 1985 and has grown from a small support group in Colchester to an Essex-wide charity, enabling adults living with an acquired brain injury, to live a fulfilling life, and to help their families and carers cope with their caring role.
The Half Marathon race will start and finish at the Job Serve Community Stadium, and the headline sponsor is Griffin Chapman Chartered Accountants. Runners can apply online at
