Colchester United 6 – Crewe Alexandra 0

It was six of the best as United extended their unbeaten start to the season with a  6-0 home thrashing of a shell-shocked Crewe.

Frankie Kent gave the U’s a fourth minute lead from close range after Sammie Szmodics’ effort had been blocked following Brennan Dickenson’s free-kick.

And it was 2-0 four minutes later when Dickenson struck a 25-yard shot past Crewe goalkeeper Dave Richards.

Dickenson made it three in the 27th minute shooting into the roof of the net at the far post after Ryan Jackson’s long throw into the box had sailed across the area.

Jackson added Colchester’s fourth in the 59th minute, driving past Richards after Courtney Senior’s effort had been blocked.

The fifth, in the 74th minute, came from substitute Luke Norris; a side-footed finish from Kane Vincent-Young’s assist hitting the mark.

Tom Lapslie wrapped things up with a sixth three minutes later, converting Dickenson’s pass as Colchester claimed a decisive and well-deserved win.

Next up: The U’s host Northampton Town at the Jobserve stadium on Saturday 25th August.
