Cllr. Nick Barlow (Lib), Chair of Colchester Commercial Holdings Limited said: “This is a major step forward in the development of our exciting plans for Colchester’s Northern Gateway. This is a ground-breaking leisure and employment complex, which we are confident will attract visitors from across the Borough and beyond.

“The work of Colchester Amphora Trading will be supported by advice from specialist sports and leisure consultants and they will continue with their excellent contacts with the future operators of the facilities and with sports organisations.”

Contained within the site are plans for a 2,425sqm sports centre, a 1,641sqm club house, 12 sports pitches including two 3G pitches, seven turf pitches and three mini pitches.

A 1.6km cycle track, archery range and additional recreational areas are also planned for the site on the land north-east of Cuckoo Farm Way.

Colchester Amphora Trading, Colchester Council’s trading arm will deliver the project and promote the Northern Gateway as a major leisure destination.
