Air Ambulance attends to woman who fell from bridge

An 80-year-old remains in hospital after falling from a bridge on Balkerne Hill Colchester today (May 3rd).

The incident happened at around 1:30pm.

Essex Police said in a statement: “We were called at 1.30pm today, Thursday, 3rd May, to reports that a woman, aged in her 80s, had fallen from railings close to a bridge above Balkerne Hill, Colchester.

“The woman has been taken to hospital by air ambulance and the road has since reopened to traffic.”

A spokesperson for Essex Ambulance Service said: “Two ambulance crews, an ambulance officer and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended to the scene.

“On arrival, they treated a woman for injuries to her pelvic region.”

Balkerne Hill was temporarily closed, but has since fully reopened.

The woman was taken to Colchester hospital for further care. Her condition is not known at this time.
