Colchester United have played their last home game of the 2017-18 season, but had to settle for a goalless draw.
With neither team likely to make the play-offs, this was always unlikely to be a firecracker of a match.
The U’s made three changes to the side that lost away to Lincoln last weekend; Kent and Senior recalled plus a League debut for goalkeeper Barnes.
Barnes didn’t have to wait long for his first piece of the action, saving a deflection from Taylor’s long-range free kick on six minutes.
It was a fairly event-less first half, Mandron volleying wide from Stevenson’s corner and then Senior clearing the bar in the 35th minute.
The best chance of a goal for the U’s came in the 43rd minute when Wright made a strong run only for his goal-bound shot to be palmed away by a fully stretched Moore.
Things continued in the same vein in the second half, the only action of note being Wright’s dangerous shot across the goal-face on 58 minutes.
The U’s made a double substitution shortly after with Ogedi-Uzokwe and Gondoh coming on for Mandron and Wright; giving Gondoh his Football League debut.
Gondoh definitely looked a lively prospect for the U’s, his free-kick following a foul by McDermott deflected over the bar.
Both teams struggled to create any clear cut chances in this, the final home game of the season.
Next up: The U’s final match of the season is the long trek to Exeter on Saturday 5th May.
