The U’s are all but resigned to league two football next season, following a home defeat by Notts County.
Following Grant’s volley over the bar in the fourth minute for the Magpies, Wright got the home side off to a perfect start, putting away his third goal of the season on nine minutes.
Mandron caused a stir with a strong run through County’s defence in the 15th minute, only for his shot to be saved by keeper Collin.
A 24th minute corner saw the ball in the back of the net for the Magpies, but it was ruled out for a foul by Duffy in the box.
However, the U’s were undone in the second half by County goals on 51, 69 and 76 minutes.
Eastman had hit the woodwork early in the second half, but just two minutes later, Forte scored for the Magpies, despite the U’s appealing for a foul.
United came close to regaining their lead just before the hour mark, with Wright’s shot whipping across the goal face; neither well-placed Szmodics or Shodipo able to put it away.
County took the lead on 69 minutes courtesy of Ameobi who bundled in the loose ball from close range after Walker had kept out Forte’s initial shot.
County wrapped up the game with Duffy’s header from Jones’ free-kick on 76 minutes.
Next up for the U’s: Away to Lincoln City on Saturday 21st April.
