Firefighters called in to make safe chimney in Stanway

A main road in Colchester was closed off this afternoon for almost three hours, in the wake of what has now been confirmed as Storm David.

Firefighters were called to a house opposite the BP petrol station on London Road, Stanway after reports of a damaged chimney.A spokesperson for Essex Fire and Rescue said: “Firefighters used an aerial ladder platform to reach the chimney to make it safe.”

Two fire appliances were on the scene. Essex Police coordinated the closure of the road whilst fire crews carried out their work.

Around 2:15pm the chimney was made safe and the road was reopened shortly afterwards.
