UPDATED Yellow weather warning issued by Met Office for wind

The Met Office has today (Thursday 18th January) updated its yellow weather warning for the East of England.

The M25 QEII Bridge has been closed with traffic being diverted through the tunnels.

Very strong winds are expected across East Anglia during Wednesday night and into Thursday with the risk that road, rail and ferry services may be affected with longer journey times and cancellations. There is also the possibility that some bridges may close and power cuts may occur with the potential to affect other services such as mobile phone coverage.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible, along with some damage to buildings.

“Large waves are expected to affect some coasts with beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.”
